Popeye had it right: Spinach Power is the Way!
Here’s a simple, healthy, effective AND yummy strategy to lose weight:
Replace all carbohydrates and sugars in your diet with Cruciferous
and other Vegetables, like Spinach.
• Broccoli • Cauliflower • Cabbage • Sauerkraut (fermented cabbage) • Rotkohl (red cabbage) • Brussles Sprouts • Beetroot • Spinach |
So I was at the judo club when Bjorn, the heavyweight black belt, asked me: 
“If you were to tell us the simplest possible trick for weight loss, what would it be?”
And I said: “That’s easy, just replace all carbs with vegetables.”
Bjorn: “Eat more vegetables? Sure, I heard that one before. … But how do you DO that?”
“Well,” I replied, “you take a fork. You take a vegetable, put it on the fork. You open your mouth … ” Naaaaw, just kidding …
But I could see the problem:
So I decided to write a quick and simple post, demonstrating how to replace bad carbs with good vegetables …
Your How-To Guide:
When preparing a meal that normally would go with, say, potatoes, here’s what I suggest you should do:
Throw out the potatoes, or give them to your mother-in-law.
Replace them with some Baked Cauliflower in Low Fat Cheese-Sauce instead (recipe below).
Presto! It’s as simple as that!
BAD CARBS: White Rice, Pasta, Bread, Potatoes, Pizza Dough, Anything With Wheat In It, Most Breakfast Cereals … etc. |
Recipe Suggestion:
Baked Cauliflower in Low Fat Cheese-Sauce
• 1 medium head cauliflower cut into florets
• 1 tbsp vegetable stock
• 2 cups baby spinach (100 gram)
• 1 cup low-fat milk
• 1 tbsp cornstarch dissolved in 1/4 cup low-fat milk
• 1/2 cup sharp reduced-fat cheese (low fat cheddar and/or roquefort)
Preheat oven to 375 degrees Celcius/190 Fahrenheit.
Steam cauliflower florets for just a few minutes to medium-rare/al dente (still with a good bite/crunch)
Put cauliflower and spinach in baking dish.
Heat milk in a saucepan, add cornstarch/milk-mixture and stir until thickened. Finally stir in the cheese until melted.
Spice to taste with black pepper, garlic and onion powder plus a pinch of nutmeg and curry powder.
Pour cheese sauce over cauliflower. Bake for 20 minutes.
Serves 4
