So those are the highlights, and now for some of the more nerdy detail below…

    Greek Yogurt Benefits, the details:

    Protein
Greek Yogurt and it’s cousins Quark (Germany) and Skyr (Iceland) are very high protein: from about 8% up to 13%, depending on brand and exact type.

    Pro Biotics
Beneficial bacteria have a ton of health benefits, and Greek Yogurt boasts a solid 5 different types!

    S. Thermophilus
    L. Bulgaricus
    L. Acidophilus
    L. Casei
    Bifidobacerium

These friendly bacteria improve digestion and thus assimilation of foods: children grow better, adults get in shape and stay healthy.

    Immune System
Several studies show that the probiotics we just met are incredibly important and effective in boosting our immune system! Stay healthy, shrug off the flu and –did you know?– a strong immune system increases anabolism, read: it’s muscle building! So for us fitness enthusiasts, let’s load up on greek yogurt! icon smile Greek Yogurt Benefits

Another controlled study resulted in significantly improved cholesterol profiles, with a much better HDL to LDL ratio after just one month of only 100 grams/day probiotic yogurt! Impressive…

    Calcium
It seems that natural calcium –just like found in Greek Yogurt– is superior to most supplements, as far as our body’s ability to actually use it! Another plus for Greek and other yogurts. Then there’s some research indicating that natural calcium prevents fat uptake to a degree…possibly resulting in less body fat storage and consequently lower body fat levels.

    Low Carb
Greek Yogurt is low carb, much lower than most other dairy products. This is because of the straining and fermentation process, both of which reduce lactose, the milk sugar.
That’s also the reason why those with a lactose intolerance can usually handle Greek Yogurt no problem! icon smile Greek Yogurt Benefits

This is so simple and yet awsome it’s pure genius:
Take a cup of Greek Yogurt, some fruit juice, throw it both in a blender and get ready to enjoy one of the tastiest, healthiest, all natural protein shakes. Perfect as a post workout shake for example.

So these are the main Benefits of Greek Yogurt. I guess you can see why I really like it and why I recommend it to anyone that wants to be healthy, lose weight or just get in shape!

What about ordinary yogurt? Turns out, that’s also quite good for you.
And milk? Seeing that both types are made from it? Well, it depends on which kind of milk, really…

Can you make Greek yogurt from Bulgarian yogurt? Is it just removing the liquid?

      • Mark says:

        Hey Yavor,

yeah I guess, basically that’s what you do. The result is a concentrate you might say, hence the higher protein and probiotics concentrations.
Yet the straining removes some of the lactose so you get much less of that and folks who can’t handle for example milk usually do well with Greek yogurt! :-)

You should try greek yogurt in smoothies, it comes out so much better and tastes great. I always use fruit and honey with mine instead of a protein shake.
      Thanks for the information mate.
