Fat Burning Foods, The List
Updated 01.03.2012
The Fat Burning Foods in this list are real life, effective and healthy foods that will support your fat burning efforts.
They do so by providing soluble as well as insoluble fiber, smart fats and beneficial phytochemicals that help detoxify your body from harmful substances like for instance estrogens and heavy metals.
In addition they provide satiety, so it will be easier to eat less and stay away from harmful foods like sugars, refined starches and most grains.
Integrating these foods will help your weight loss diet become much more effective.
If you want to burn fat the natural healthy way –not via the means of some weight loss pills– this is the list for you.
Fat Burning Foods, The List
Broccoli and it’s cousin cauliflower are known as cruciferous vegetables, and are especially powerful fat burning foods. They have high soluble fiber and the above mentioned estrogen detox qualities.
See above. Cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts and company can actually taste fantastic, and have a extremely low calorie cost: some 300 calories per kilogram! (2.2 pounds)
This Radish works really well as a extra low calorie filler food: 15 calories per 100 gram!
Cucumbers are similar to white radish in that they’re a very low calorie food, usually around 30 to 45 calories for a whole, big old slicing cucumber! I like to have them with a little salt before or between meals as they taste great and sure reduce appetite.
These super fat burning foods of the legumes family are very high soluble fiber, have an extremely low G.I. (Glycemic Index, indicating how much a food raises insulin levels) and are a most delicious filler food.
My all-time favorite. Coconuts are high insoluble fiber, have the smartest fat in town, and suppress appetite like nothing else! A trick I use with fat burning clients is simply this: have one fresh coconut first thing in the morning. That’s it. You’ll be surprised at how little you will eat that day.
I sometimes have for example organic tomato soup –basically just boiled down tomatoes, makes for a whooping two giant soup plates and I just can’t believe how full I am afterwards! ![]()
Then there’s the lycopene: a super powerful natural anti-oxidant!
Many experts claim that protein has the highest thermic effect: it’s supposed to take about 30% of the calories contained in the protein food just to assimilate it! Additionally protein foods provide a good level of satiety and are used to build muscle and repair our bodies.
This is the smartest fat around, in my opinion. It contains high levels of lauric acid, shown to raise HDL (the good cholesterol). Coconut oil is antimicrobial, and is made up mainly of MCT’s (medium chain triglycerides) and these fatty acids are special indeed: the body much prefers to burn MCT’s for energy rather than store them!
Another interesting thing about coconuts: if you have to have something sweet, try coconut sugar. Looks like this stuff is incredible and can even be used when burning fat.

P.S.
Some of you were commenting that things like green tea and cinnamon should be here, too.
Thanks for the heads up guys! ![]()
I left them out because I have written on these in other places already, like this post for example.
Also I wanted to keep this list to real foods only, so no beverages and supplements etc.
But hey thanks for letting me know, I always appreciate your feedback!

Will add some of these foods to my shopping list, I am sure they will assist me in my current fat loss goals.
Cool stuff Mark. I use the soup idea. Also one of my faves is roasted broccoli/cauliflower (cauliflower is easier on the stomach) with some yellow Bulgarian cheese or meat or boiled eggs.
Sounds great man!
Ever tried the coconuts? Un-Be-Lie-Ve-a-Ble!
Yeah the coconuts are kinda expensive here so that’s why I haven’t tried them.
Best food in the world man:
I get myself a coconut palm and some chickens for eggs, I’m set for life LOL!
Mark
Mark buddy I had to re-read your last comment to get it lol. You will get yourself a palm tree huh
Niiice!
It’s all you need Brother!
…maybe grow some broccoli and cauliflower in the garden…
Bookmarked! I am always wondering what I can add to my diet to help burn fat. You’ve solved that mystery for me today!
Great list of fat burning foods! Thanks for that! BOOKMARKED
I will try one coconut a day…good idea thanks!

Coconuts rock, they’re the best!

Do the beans count as carbs?
Heya, yeah strictly speaking, but they’re Smart Carbs, so they’re good for weight loss!
Mark
P.S.
Say you’re on a Keto Diet, you might want to take it easy on the beans though, as well.
This is a good list. I’m also like using the TEF of protein to my advantage. I’m a big fan of eggs and grass-fed beef, and sticking to solid food if you want to burn fat.

Hey Tony,
yeah, real food rules, anytime imo, but especially when dropping weight…
Mark
don’t forget to add green tea, omega 3 to the list for maximising fat burning, can anyone add some more fat burning supplements / foods to the list?
Heya Irene, thanks for the heads-up!
On this list I was focusing more on the common actual foods as opposed to supplements, beverages and all that. I got a list of that on an old, old post here:

Do the beans count as carbs?
Yebbs, strictly speaking, BUT I call them smart carbs, since they are: they’re low g.i., high soluble fiber, super slow release energy!
