Donuts Nutrition or: The True Cost of a Donut
Feel Like a 2-hour hike?
No?
Did you know that two donuts (and who stops at one!) have an average of 700-800 calories?
And did you know that to burn that off, you would have to run on the treadmill for 1.5 hours? At least?
Or if you‘re not in any hurry, you could walk for some 2 hours, that’s about 8 miles if you’re good, just to burn off those measly two donuts …
2 Donuts = 2 Hours
That‘s a lot of pain, sweat and boredom for about 1 minute of pleasure!
Here, see for yourself … some Donuts Nutrition:
| Calories in Donuts | ||
| Types of Donut | Portion | Calories |
| Donuts, Cake-Type, Plain | 3.5oz | 421 |
| Donuts, Cake-Type, Glazed | 3.5oz | 417 |
| Donuts, Cake-Type, Sugared | 3.5oz | 425 |
| Donuts, Cake-Type, Chocolate | 3.5oz | 417 |
And that‘s not all: donuts usually are chock full with sugar and trans fats … not exactly a health food for sure.
So when tempted next by the rich creaminess and sweetness of these yummy calorie bombs, you might want to re-consider.
Have a sellery stick instead! Whoohoo!
But … what if it has to be sweet? A small apple will do: 80 calories, and it‘s good for you, too!
Wait, here‘s a plan: why not have 2 donuts every day? No problem. Simply run the Boston Marathon on the weekend … every weekend!
Sound good?
Didn‘t think so. Put into perspective like that, I should say it‘s definitely easier to not eat the stuff in the first place, rather than try and undo the damage later.
Prevention is better –and easier—than cure!
All that doesn’t mean to say that the right training cannot be an effective fat burner: it can.
But not so much via the calories burned, rather more out of the metabolism-maintaining and –raising effects and most importantly because of the Hormonal Response to such training.
If you do it right, you can drive growth hormone levels through the roof; the right workout, especially at the right time and in synergistic combination with supporting supplements etc. will increase this major fat burning hormone like nobody’s business! |
What I’m saying in this article is that, again: prevention is better than cure, and that goes probably more for weight loss than for anything else!
In other words; it’s much better to eat right and lose weight via proper nutritional intervention than getting fat first and then attempting to burn it off again with some inappropriate slog, like aerobic exercise for example.
The above example of Donut versus Treadmill hopefully makes that pretty obvious!
I mean, who wants to do a marathon once a week? And even for those few who do? It’s still unhealthy and very inefficient.
Remember: the right diet makes as much as 80-90% of fat burning success, particularly over the long haul.
P.S.
If you’re missing them Donuts bad, here’s my fav recipe to replace them: with a totally delish, healthy AND fat burning food!

Fresh Coconut Flap Jacks
• 4 organic, Free Range Eggs |
Mix the barley, the spelt bran, psyllium, cinnamon and salt as well as the dark raisins in a bowl. Add the water, let soak for 20-30 minutes.
Melt the coconut butter in a pan, take off heat, let cool, then add the eggs and the pre-soaked barley, spelt bran, psyllium, salt, cinnamon and raisins.
Put back on low heat, stirring vigorously, keep the eggs yellow, don’t let them turn even slightly brown. Keep stirring until dry and of firm, sticky consistency.
In the meantime, crack the fresh coconut, shell it and rasp roughly. Stir/mix into the ready and cooling dough.
Take the dough out, shape into squares or balls, roll/dust in the dried coconut rasps. Enjoy !;-)
This is my totally all-time favorite: it’s so delicious and healthy, it should get a medal!
